Henna Virkkunen has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014, as a member of the European People’s Party (EPP). Her primary committee during the legislative term 2019-2024 is Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). She is also a substitute member of the committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN).
Transport and digitalisation are among MEP Virkkunen’s key interests. MEP Virkkunen is a keen advocate of bioeconomy and is working in the European Parliament for sustainable and smart transport and responsible measures to fight climate change.
Before MEP Virkkunen was elected to the European Parliament, she served as a Minister of Transport and Local Government in Finland. She has also been a Minister of Public Administration and Local Government, as well as a Minister of Education, during her two terms as a Member of the Parliament of Finland.
